Two killed in East Cape ambulance crash – South Africa

From The Weekend Post

TWO Eastern Cape emergency services personnel died and a third was seriously injured when an ambulance was involved in a head-on collision, the provincial health department said today (September 13).

Spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the accident happened yesterday on the road between Mbizana and Kokstad.

All three were travelling in an ambulance, which was taking one of the staffers to attend a course in Port Elizabeth.

Two staffers were killed instantly. The third lost an arm and was taken to a Margate hospital.

Kupelo also said a female medical student had been found dead in her accommodation at the Mthatha hospital complex this morning.

The student, in her 20s, had apparently committed suicide, he said.

Eastern Cape health MEC Phumulo Masualle offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of the staff injured in the accident, and of the student, and wished the crash survivor a speedy recovery. – Sapa
