Hughesville (Maryland)Tanker 2 was involved in a personal injury accident earlier today on Poplar Hill Road in Waldorf, responding to a large brush fire in the area. The officer has serious injuries but NLT including a fractured hip and maybe pelvis. Tanker suffered extensive damage and could possibly be a total loss. The tanker was not at fault, the dumptruck slide into the tankers lane, trying to avoid a vehicle that had slowed or possibly stopped in the opposite lane to let the firetruck safely proceed in its proper lane. Reports are that if not for the evasive action of the driver (with over 15 years of accident free driving) the outcome could have possibly been a fatal one.
