A Loxley man died early Thursday when his F-150 pickup truck collided with a MedStar ambulance, which had been hurrying to an emergency call in thick fog, Loxley police said. The wreck’s cause remained under investigation Friday, police said.
The truck’s driver, Eddie L. White, 58, of Loxley, was later pronounced dead at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, said Loxley police Lt. Raymond Lovell. The accident took place about 4:20 a.m. at the intersection of Baldwin County 68 and Ala. 59.

Family members said White had been on his way to a kidney dialysis appointment at Port City Dialysis in Mobile. MedStar officials did not return phone calls Friday from the Press-Register.
"It’s just tragic. It was very foggy," Lovell said. The two people onboard the ambulance, a paramedic and an emergency medical technician, were examined at the hospital and released without significant injuries, he said.
White was wearing a seat belt and was not ejected from the vehicle, and alcohol is not thought to have been a factor in the accident, Loxley police said.
