1 Dead, Several Injured in AA Co. Crashes – Maryland

ABC2 News now knows the name of the woman killed in the fatal Anne Arundel County car accident on Sunday morning. According to AA County Police,  47-year-old Yvette Michelle Peoples of Pikesville was killed around 3:40 a.m. Police say that freezing rain and ice made for slippery roads when Peoples lost control of her Dodge Caravan on southbound 295 near 195. She was the only person in the car.

Officials in Anne Arundel County are investigating three separate early morning crashes involving a police car, an ambulance, and a fire engine that resulted in one person being killed and several more seriously injured.

The first accident happened at around 1:30 a.m. on Cypress Creek Road and Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. A 47-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl were both rescued from the wreck of their car after the driver lost control of the vehicle and flipped. Both patients were transported by ambulance to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

An Anne Arundel County Officer was on scene investigating that crash when another car spun out of control and hit the officer’s vehicle. No one was injured as a result.

The next accident happened two hours later on Route 295 at West Nursery Road in Linthicum. Captain Debbie Bowen, a spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said an ambulance was on the side of the road attending to patients from an earlier crash when a car slid and hit the ambulance. The car had two people inside of it including a 47-year-old woman and a 26-year-old woman.

Emergency personnel found the 46-year-old woman not breathing and without a pulse. She was pulled from the wreck and pronounced dead on the scene. Her passenger was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious life threatening injuries. The Medical Examiner was on scene to investigate as was the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

A fire truck was involved in a third accident at around 6 a.m. on I-97 South and Route 176 in Glen Burnie. The engine was on scene of a call for property damage when a vehicle spun out of control and struck the engine. No injuries were reported.

Captain Bowen says weather is a contributing factor in some but not all of the accidents.

The causes of all three crashes remain under investigation.
