UPDATE 2150 hours: DELAWARE FIRE EMT STRUCK AT SCENE-IN EXTREME CRITICAL CONDITION

Latest condition on Delaware City (DE) FD EMT Michelle Smith. Possibly additional orthopedic surgery tonight if swelling is reduced enough. She is still in a comatose state on a vent. She is in extremely critical at this moment. As you are aware, Delaware City (MD) Fire Company EMT Michelle Smith, while performing duties on an MVC scene on DuPont Hwy, was struck by a vehicle.

Here is the scoop on what happened. The initial accident happened when 30 year old man lost control of his Harley Davidson motorcycle while riding south on U.S. 13. Delaware City FD EMT Michelle Smith, 30, along with the crew arrived and began to treat the bike rider. Then, a New Castle County police officer arrived on the scene. The officer noticed a 2004 BMW 760 speeding in his direction and got back into his car to avoid being struck…the BMW then sideswiped the cop’s car… lost control and violently struck EMT Smith and Reiss, who were both on the ground. The BMW stopped on the shoulder of the road, but shortly after another vehicle pulled up alongside and the dirtbag got inside it and fled the scene.

Updates to follow….keep her and her 11yr old daughter. in your prayers-she has some extremely serious injuries.
