Hey…
This morning, in Anne Arundel County (Maryland) an engine company was blocking a crash scene in I-295 near I-195. The road conditions were really bad with black ice being a problem as well. Several civilian vehicles, losing control, struck fire apparatus as well as a medic unit. A civilian in a car was tragically killed as a result of that medic unit "struck" crash. No fire or EMS personnel were injured. One of their other engines was also struck at a separate scene but no one was hurt. More reminders of how "we" need to expect this to happen-and manage our personnel at a scene. Block and protect.
GEORGIA FATAL CRASH:
On Friday, a 52 year old man was killed when his motorcycle slammed into a Savannah FD apparatus.
The motorcyclist tried to pull onto a roadway, but when he did ran into the side of the rig. The preliminary investigation shows the driver of the fire apparatus couldn’t have done anything to avoid it…naturally, the Firefighters stopped and went to help, but their efforts were futile as the civilian was DOA. The fire apparatus wasn’t traveling very fast and was able to stop well short of about thirty feet after the crash happened
DELAWARE CITY UPDATE:
As you are aware, Delaware City (MD) Fire Company EMT Michelle Smith, while performing duties on an MVC scene on DuPont Hwy, was struck by a vehicle. She was treated and transported to the hospital with serious traumatic injuries. She is in stable condition and was conscious and talking with the DCFC Chief while at the scene and during transport. She was taken into surgery early this morning and was in surgery for approximately 4 hours, with a 2 hour recovery period at the minimum. Her family is currently at the hospital with her, along with a contingent of Officers and Members of the DCFC. Updates to follow as we wish Michelle a rapid recovery.
FDIC MEMORIES:
If you have EVER been to FDIC, you have great memories. if you have NEVER been to FDIC, stop reading this RIGHT NOW and go here: www.FDIC.com and PLAN on attending. Seriously.
Some of you have recent memories of FDIC, some of you with NHGH (No Hair or Gray Hair) have many memories from FDIC in Indy to FDIC in Memphis or in Cincinnati. GREAT memories.
Well, for those who have been to FDIC since it has moved to Indy spent many, MANY days in the RCA dome. You remember, don’t you, that pressurized dome with ONE revolving door that you had to get a running 8-10 mph start in order to go and get caught in, spun around a bit and then spat out on the other end? You know, the one where, just a few years ago, several small children actually spun around and around for 2 days before being removed from the device?
Well, since so many FDIC attendees complained (and have since required counseling by Dr. Halton… himself a suffering and battered VICTIM of the RCA Dome revolving door), the staff at FDIC was able to secure the funds to DESTROY The RCA Dome. Yes, it is gone-and they did it ALL for you, the FDIC attendee. It was imploded yesterday because THE FIRE SERVICE had simply had enough. The POWER of the unified FIRE Service…how ’bout that! So take a moment and watch the video and HEAR the Fire Engineering/FDIC Staff yelling in the background as the DOME comes tumbling down.
If you listen carefully, you can actually hear Eric, Bobby, Diane, Mary Jane, Lila, Bob, Nancy, John, Glenn, Skip and many others gasp in awe as another bit of FDIC history passes by. Take a look, listen and let the difficult memories of YOU being trapped in the hi-speed revolving door flow thru and out of your head:
Take care-BE CAREFUL.
