UPDATE: FF KILLED WHEN STRUCK:
The bus driver charged in connection with the death of a Sesser, Illinois) Firefighter has made a plea deal. Sammie Rogers pleaded guilty Wednesday to reckless driving and sentenced to 24 months probation. Other charges — including reckless homicide– were dropped. Rogers was driving a Greyhound bus that hit and killed firefighter James "Shib" Miller in July of 2007. FF Miller was cleaning up at the scene of a fire along Interstate 57. Since this LODD, a new law was enacted to better protect Illinois first responders…."Shib’s Law" allows fire, police and other personnel to close any roadway while working at an emergency scene and it was drafted in response to the July 2007 crash that killed Miller.
BRUSH TRUCK DESTROYED ON FIRE CALL:
In Prince Georges County (MD), a brush truck was destroyed while operating at a fire. We have posted a picture of the rig and the PGFD news release on our home page.
