A Phoenix man was arrested New Year’s Eve after police say he roughed up two
Phoenix firefighters who were attempting to reach a fire in the man’s
backyard.
Kevin Bromley, 48, was booked into jail on two counts of aggravated
assault to a firefighter and one count of reckless burning. When firefighters
arrived at the man’s home in the 1600 block of West Lynwood, Capt. Joe Bonnell
of the Phoenix Fire Department spoke to Bromley over the backyard fence and
asked him to open the gate. Bromley answered him
with an obscenity. Bonnell jumped the fence and once again asked Bromley to open
the gate. When Bromley refused, Captain Bonnell asked a witness to hand
him the bolt cutters to cut the lock -but then Bromley unlocked the
gate and quickly pulled it back, striking Captain Bonnell in the mouth and another man
in the hand. Captain Bonnell brought Bromley to the ground and
held him until police arrived.
