A paramedic was assaulted when he went to help a man lying apparently unconscious by a road.
The man, who is thought to be aged about 18, turned violent when the paramedic tried to tend to him.
The 45-year-old was struck in the face.
He did not require hospital treatment but was off work for several days as a result of the attack, near Leicester city centre in the early hours of Saturday, October 8.
The attacker walked off after the assault.
Police have now appealed for witnesses to the assault, which happened at the junction of Dunns Lane and St Augustine Road between 6.35am and 7am.
Pc Steve Moore said: “This was a despicable attack on a member of the emergency services who was carrying out his duties.”
Nick Arnold, East Midlands Ambulance Service security management specialist, said: “It is unacceptable for staff to face the risk of being assaulted and intimidated when going to the aid of people.
“Anyone who deliberately commits a verbal or physical act against our service should be ashamed of their behaviour and be aware that we will make the perpetrators of such actions face up to legal consequences.
“While this attack did not result in any medical treatment being required, our paramedic was shaken by the assault and was absent from work for a number of days.”
The man, who was last seen walking along King Richards Road, is white, about 5ft 6in and of medium build.
He has short, light brown hair and was wearing dark jeans, a dark long-sleeved top with a light-coloured top underneath.
