A North Platte teen is in custody after threatening to kill two EMT personnel late Sunday.
Shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, North Platte Fire and Rescue was called to the 900 block of South Tabor to the report of a female who had accidentally cut herself. Three EMT personnel responded to the call. After arriving on scene, two EMTs approached the home where they heard arguing inside.
Upon entering the home, Carlos Charging Elk, 19, of North Platte, allegedly locked the door and threatened to kill the two emergency responders, said Lt. Rich Thompson with the North Platte Police Department.
Thompson called the original call to dispatch false, as the only woman in the home, Charging Elk’s mother, was not injured.
"The only reason he called was to set up the EMTs and possibly kill them." Thompson said.
While the two EMTs were inside the home, the third was able to call the North Platte Police Department. Inside the home, Charging Elk attempted to assault the other two EMTs.
"He charged the EMTs and the knife just dropped out of his hand," Thompson said. "They bull-rushed him, got the door unlocked and were dragging him outside when the officer arrived."
Thompson did say alcohol was involved in the incident, Charging Elk is being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center and was in front of Judge Kent Turnbull Monday in court for his arraignment. Turnbull set bond at 10 percent of $250,000.
He has been charged with three counts of terroristic threats, a class four felony, two counts of false imprisonment, a class 3A felony and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a class two felony.
Class two felonies carry a possible imprisonment of up to 50 years, class four and 3A felonies carry a maximum prison sentence of five years. He will be back in court Sept. 1, at 10:45 a.m. in front of Turnbull.
