MILWAUKEE PUBLISHES VIDEO OF RECENT MAYDAY/CLOSE CALL

This is a  video of the fire and subsequent Mayday that occurred on Friday June 3, 2011 in the City of Milwaukee – MFD Engine 31 experienced a collapse in the attic while searching for two children who were reported trapped. The hose line they were on lost pressure and the collapse cut off their primary egress to the stairwell. As a result of rapidly deteriorating fire conditions, the Officer and Nozzleman were forced to bail out the front attic windows.

The Officer received 1st and 2nd degree burns and broke both his back and pelvis as the result of the fall (which was just over 12 feet) – He landed in a bad position. The 2nd FF (Nozzleman) received severe 1st and 2nd degree burns to his torso, arms as well as burns to his legs. He bailed out after the Officer, but landed a little better and didn’t break any bones. The 3rd FF who was feeding hose escaped down the stairs, but injured his knee. The 2nd floor referred to in the narration was actually the attic.

At the 11:24 – 12:34 mark there are 2 schematics of the layout of the 2nd floor and attic. To get a more detailed view you can enlarge the video by clicking on the “Full Screen” icon in the lower right of the video.
