Hey,
As you know, DuQuoin (IL) Firefighter Corey Shaw, son of Fire Chief Robert Shaw, died in the Line of Duty late yesterday while operating at a "downtown block" fire in Pinckneyville, Illinois. A wall collapsed during initial firefighting operations. Corey’s father, DuQuoin Fire Chief Bob Shaw, was also working the fire at the time and witnessed the collapse.
At the time of collapse, the fire was burning out of control and FF Shaw was in an alley moving a ladder and preparing to “back everyone out’’ of the building so they could fight the fire defensively, when the wall collapsed on him. FF Shaw was immediately pulled from the bricks and rubble, was treated for severe head/neck trauma, stabilized at a hospital just 2 blocks away, was then flown to a trauma center in St. Louis, Mo. where he eventually passed away. The FF who was operating with FF Shaw was not injured.
22-year-old Firefighter Shaw had been a paid on call Firefighter with DuQuoin since July 2010 and was married to his wife Nicole – they have a 2 year old daughter, Cameron.
