It didn’t take much to shake up an entire community in the Silverado Ranch neighborhood.
A call was placed to 311 and has been classified as a swatting call.
The call lasted almost three minutes.
“He said he just killed his mom and his dad and he put the gun down,” says the 3-1-1 dispatcher.
The 3-1-1 non-emergency dispatcher received that fake emergency call around 10 pm on Friday, August 16.
That call resulted in dozens of police officers drawing their weapons at a home near Maryland Parkway and Pyle Avenue.
After a few seconds into the call, the non-emergency dispatcher transfers the line over to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
3-1-1 dispatcher speaking to the police says, “Hi so I have a caller on the line, he called on 3-1-1, and I am about to connect you now with him.”
The 3-1-1 dispatcher told the person on the line that she was going to transfer them to Las Vegas Metro 9-1-1 and that they were going to help him.
The Metro police dispatcher attempts to gather details from the suspect, asking him when this incident happened.
The caller is speaking in a monotonous tone and responds saying, “Not even five minutes ago.”
The 9-1-1 dispatcher attempts to gather as many details as possible, asking the caller what he did he do with the weapon.
The man says, “The kitchen counter”
9-1-1 dispatcher goes on to ask, “Okay, can you leave the kitchen?
“I’m going to sit right here,” the man said.
The 9-1-1 dispatcher asked him what was his name.
The caller responds, Does that matter? It doesn’t”
“I mean I am just getting it for officers so they can come out and help and then medical can come out obviously. are your parents still alive? hello? hello?” according to the 9-1-1 dispatcher.
The Metro police dispatcher asks the caller a question hoping to keep the conversation going.
However, that spooks him and he hangs up.
After that, the call ends there.
LVMPD says dispatchers take all calls seriously however say dispatchers are trained to listen for clues that could indicate the call may be a hoax.
