3 INDIANA FIREFIGHTERS FALL THROUGH THE FLOOR

Three Richland Township volunteer firefighters were injured when a roof collapsed on them early Saturday while they were fighting a fire.

Fire Chief Bryan Frank said the three firefighters were taken to the hospital, checked out and later released.

About 11:45 p.m. Friday the department received a call of a fire in the 4300 block of North 200 East in Richland Township. The one-story, wood-framed and brick house was in flames when firefighters arrived, Frank said.

The garage and contents — including two vehicles — were completely destroyed. About a quarter of the roof of the main structure as well as some of the kitchen’s contents were also destroyed, Frank said. The house was left uninhabitable.

The family was home at the time of the fire, he said, but none of the occupants was injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Frank said it appears as if it was caused by a faulty pump switch on the well.

Alexandria, Chesterfield, Frankton and Pendleton fire departments, as well as the Madison County Emergency Management Agency and Highway Department, assisted Richland Township.
