All,
3 civilians are dead and 18 emergency service personnel were taken to the hospital this morning after responding to a suspected overdose in a home with possible drug-related substances in the Torrance County community of Mountainair-near Albuquerque.
An “occupant” of the home and 18 first responders — two of whom are now in “serious condition” — were transported to University of New Mexico Hospital, where they are being quarantined, evaluated and monitored.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue HazMat teams are on scene in efforts to identify the substance involved. Investigators believe the substance may be transmitted through contact and do not believe it to be airborne.
Torrance County Sheriff David Frazee said at least one person who was found within the home was revived with Narcan, which is used to reverse opioid overdoses, before first responders began feeling Emergency personnel apparently inhaled some toxins.
