Three were hurt when a Sacramento Metro Fire engine plowed into a stopped car on a Highway 50 exit intersection at approximately 10:30 Wednesday morning.
The engine was responding to a medical aid call and on northbound Mather Field Road, said fire department spokesman Capt. Christian Pebbles. A black Acura leaving the westbound lanes of 50 onto the Mather Field exit suddenly came to stop in the exit’s intersection as the fire engine approached.
Pebbles said the fire engine had no place to go but into the stopped car.
The left side of the car was bashed in while the engine had left front-end damage.
The driver of the car was transported to an area hospital for neck and back pain, Pebbles said. The fire engine driver was taken for care for leg pain and a second firefighter also received minor injuries.
Pebbles said the car’s driver said he was listening to loud music and didn’t hear the engine’s siren.
Pebbles also reminded drivers to pull to the right side of the road and stop when seeing and hearing an emergency vehicle.
