A woman driving southbound on San Jacinto St. was struck by a Maxwell Community Volunteer Fire Department brush truck as she turned into State Park Rd. The brush truck rolled over, killing two firefighters, FF Hunter Coco, 21 and Assistant Chief Jonathon Coco, 25. Jonathan was a member since 2016 and Hunter was a member for a little more than a year. The woman in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
(Maxwell, Texas) On behalf of the families and members of Maxwell Community Volunteer Fire Department and Caldwell County Emergency Services District No. 2, it is with a heavy heart that we confirm the passing of two of our members, Hunter Coco (21) and Jonathon Coco (25) in the line of duty for the citizens of the community of Maxwell and Caldwell County, Texas.
Assistant Chief Jonathon Coco and his brother, Firefighter Hunter Coco, died in a traffic accident while returning from a wildfire on Texas Highway 20 outside of Lockhart, Texas around 1:48 p.m., June 20, 2022. Jonathon was a member of the Department since 2016 and his younger brother, Hunter, for just over one year. Hunter and Jonathon are survived by their immediate family.
We want to remind all that most of our fire and other emergency services are provided by selfless volunteers like these, and we pray for their families in our shared time of grief.
The members of both the Department and District are grateful to all members of our community who have shown their support and eternal love to all of us and the Coco family in this very trying time. We ask, respectfully, that any showing of support and gratitude for our fallen members be held until further arrangements are made.
In the interim, donations in support of Jonathon and Hunter can be made to Maxwell Community Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 216, Maxwell, Texas 78656.
Further arrangements and information will be forthcoming as soon as possible.
