2 FF’s LODD: Sweden, Indiana Gas Expl/Videos, CT FF Trauma LODD Update Report (The Secret List)

All.

Tragic news in Norway, where a homeowner has been charged and is a suspect in connection with a house fire that killed two Firefighters, Roger Kvello Hansen (51) and Geir Otto Lein Johnson (58), last Wednesday. The two Firefighters were operating, but then became separated and lost in the dwelling fire.
When contact with the Firefighters was lost, the fire was so intense that it was not possible to enter the house, and the fire department eventually lost contact with the two men.
The first deceased was not found until 8:20 p.m. the next day, and the second at 9:50 p.m. Hansen and Johnson are described as experienced Firefighters.
Authorities have seized the homeowner’s digital devices as part of the ongoing investigation.
Brannvesenet Midt-IKS, the agency of the deceased firefighters, has also been given suspect status in the case with possible violations of labor laws related to the workplace deaths.
Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in Peace.

UPDATE ON CONNECTICUT FIREFIGHTER KILLED AT APPARATUS
Connecticut OSHA has concluded its investigation into the death of a Plainville Volunteer Fire Company firefighter during a house fire response, finding no violations of safety standards. The report is below.

Firefighter Ray Moreau died in the Line of Duty when a piece from a fire truck broke off and struck him. After his death, CONN-OSHA began an investigation. The report from CONN-OSHA confirms what many officials had always said, that Ray Moreau’s death was a tragic accident.

According to the report, there were several engines that responded to the fire on July 28th on Maria Road. When a 4th engine truck arrived, an uncharged five-inch supply line that was on the ground became entangled in the engine’s wheels, unknown to the driver. There was no water in the hose.

The truck kept driving, and while Moreau was grabbing a breathing apparatus from a different truck, the hose pinned him against the truck. The report says:

“With the supply line becoming tighter, it began to pull the firefighter vertically along the cab of the apparatus. While the firefighter was being pulled up the cab of the apparatus, the TFT Intake Valve, which the supply line was attached to on E2, failed at the attachment coupling. The intake valve, which weighs approximately thirty-five pounds then struck the firefighter throwing them approximately six to eight feet into the air and approximately ten feet in front of the engine he had been standing next to.”

Conn-OSHA found no violations, but did recommend the department establish a new standard operating procedure and establish training on situational awareness. At the time of his death, town and fire officials, justifiably called Moreau a true hero.

THE REPORT:
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
