WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — A 10-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Sunday in serious condition after reports say he rode a bicycle through a stop sign and was struck by a Warren firetruck.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Nevada Avenue SW and Union Street SW.
A release from the Warren City Fire Department says the fire truck was returning to its station and traveling northbound on Nevada Avenue.
According to a crash report from the Warren Police Department, the boy was riding his bike west on Union Street and did not stop or slow down at the stop sign before being struck by the firetruck.
The boy was not wearing any protective gear, and the firetruck was traveling around 20 mph, the crash report said.
The fire department’s release said firefighters immediately provided aid and contacted EMTs and the police department.
The three people in the firetruck were uninjured, the crash report said. The firetruck had minor damage.
The crash report said the boy was found to be at fault and was issued a citation for running the stop sign.
The crash is under investigation.
