The driver of a BMW that crashed into a Hillsboro ambulance late Tuesday night on Northwest 185th Avenue and Cornell Road in Hillsboro remains in serious condition at a Portland hospital. Tien Nguyen, 28, was transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital via ambulance around 11 p.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Michael Rouches of Hillsboro Police Department. Two emergency medical technicians riding in the MetroWest ambulance were treated for minor injuries and released at the same hospital, he said. According to police, Nguyen drove through a red light while traveling eastbound on Northwest 185th, and crashed into the ambulance on its way to a medical call around 11 p.m. The ambulance, driven by Mandy Pearson, 25, was driving south on Cornell Road. She was accompanied by another EMT, Laila Cook, 25, Rouches said. No patients were in the ambulance at the time. Rouches said Nguyen will likely be cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and failure to obey a traffic signal.
