There were no serious injuries when an SUV and ambulance collided head-on early Sunday morning.
The crash involved a Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad rig that was returning to the station. The wreck took place on New Falls Road between Apple Tree and Red Cedar drives in Bristol Township around 12:30 a.m.
Joel Rutkowski, the chief of the rescue squad, said the crew was taken to Jefferson Bucks Hospital for evaluation and released. He said the ambulance will be heading to the manufacturer in New Jersey for appraisal.
Levittown Fire Company No. 2 officials said the SUV was driving the wrong way on New Falls Road at the time of the crash.
The driver of the SUV was not seriously hurt.
“One thing that is important to note is if our driver had responded differently the other car would have hit at a more lateral angle possibly causing major injury to the crew members,” Rutkowski said.
Bristol Township police were investigating the crash.
The crash happened just minutes into the start of National Emergency Medical Services Week, which honors the frontline workers who provide emergency medical care.
