Our company was dispatched to a confirmed working fire in a neighboring community. Our first rig was out with 6 firefighters, command advised to send more manpower to the incident. The second unit out was a Support Services Unit carrying 4 more firefighters. While they were responding to the incident they were t-boned at an intersection and our SSU flipped at least twice and trapped the driver that was unresponsive after the crash. Luckily all four firefighters were wearing their seatbelts according to department SOG’s and state law. Once the companies heavy rescue arrived and preformed extrication on it own SSU, all four firefighters were treated at a local hospital and released within hours and EVERYONE GOT TO GO HOME.
Always make sure everyone wears their seatbelts. If seatbelts would have not been worn, then a funeral would have been planned.
