SAN ANTONIO ENGINE FLIPS ON ICY ROADS ENROUTE TO CALL

Joe Knitter    February 14, 2021    No Comments

The San Antonio Fire Department shared a photo of a downed fire engine on Sunday morning. The department’s post shared the need for San Antonians to stay home.

“Last night, because of the ice, this happened. Luckily, the crew is OK. The storm is serious. STAY HOME. Our life (and yours) are on the line,” the post continued.

According to the department’s public information officer, fire engine E34 was responding to a call when they crossed an overpass on N. Loop 1604 Access Road that was iced over. The truck proceeded to slide and turn 180 degrees, sliding down into the embankment backwards. After making contact with the guard rail and curb, the truck rolled onto the driver’s side.
No civilians or other vehicles were involved.

According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, that department has received more than 800 calls for traffic incidents as freezing temperatures persist.

The condition of E34 is unknown.
