But as the truck hit the median, FF Campbell immediately shoved Trpr Dezso out of the way and he was then struck by a rebounding guide rail cable and thrown into the side of the fire apparatus so hard that he crushed the door.
FF Campell and Tpr Dezso were checking on the drivers of the first two vehicles when a pickup truck lost control on the ice and crashed into the parked highway patrol cruiser, then went on the median toward the two men. The driver of the Dodge truck, Myra Guzman, 52, of Hampstead, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. Trpr Dezso was transported where he was treated for shoulder injuries and released.
FF Campbell remains in serious condition. Campbell is a retired State Bureau of Investigation agent and nationally recognized arson fire investigator.
Once the fire was out and determined to be contained to the oven (it was a radio in the oven, burning) ventilation operations and the process of air monitoring had begun. Some of the Firefighters on other floors and wings of the building had removed their regulators from the mask to conserve air supplies due to no smoke conditions in other areas of the building. Which, in many cases, is something that most Firefighters have done.

The department has, just recently, adopted an HCN guideline and most Firefighters are not yet totally up to date on the entire protocol as the department is all volunteer. Since this incident, just a few days ago, there have already been changes and amendments made to address some of the issues that were encountered that day.
