PA FIRE POLICE OFFICER STRUCK AT FIRE SCENE

A fire policeman was injured while he directed traffic during a two-alarm fire in Adams County on Friday, dispatch said.

The man was struck by a hose from a firetruck as it rounded a corner, according to Northeast Fire EMS Chief Lee Byers. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but his condition was not immediately known.

The fire broke out just before 2 p.m. in the 1800 block of East Berlin Road, Reading Township.

Byers said the structure, a former barn converted into two apartments, is a complete loss. He is ruling the fire accidental for now and puts the loss at approximately $200,000.

“We have to tear it down to make sure it’s out,” Byers said.

The Red Cross is on scene to help the six people displaced by the fire.
