A Georgia State University student was charged with DUI on Saturday after Athens-Clarke police say he took an ambulance and began driving it away.
Lee Cochran Dillehay, 22, of Athens approached an officer who was waiting on EMS to arrive for a medical call at a home on Ruth Street police said.
The officer said Dillehay’s breath smelled of alcohol and his speech was “slurred and repetitive.”
When EMS arrived to treat the victim in the home, police said Dillehay entered the ambulance and began backing it down Magnolia Bluff Drive.
After the officer ordered him to stop, Dillehay put the ambulance in park and ran back toward Ruth Street. He attempted to climb a fence but was apprehended by the officer.
Dillehay still was in jail on $5,500 bond Sunday and has been charged with DUI, open container and obstruction of a law enforcement officer, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail log.
