Longtime Tullytown Assistant Fire Chief Rick Johnson passed away due to complications from the coronavirus.
Johnson served the Tullytown Volunteer Fire Company for over 30 years and was previously fire chief.
“He wasn’t just the fire chief. He was a regular attendee at our borough council meetings, he helped with park and rec functions and borough functions,” Mayor David Cutchineal, told The Intelligencer.
“When you grow up in a small town, we’re like family. We have our fights and tussles, but when you lose someone like Rick, it’s like losing a member of the family,” Cutchineal said.
Four generations of Johnson’s family have been involved with the fire company. His son, Cody, is currently a firefighter. Previously, his grandfather was a firefighter and his father served as chief.
Johnson leaves behind a wife and two children.
