By Christopher Leach, Lexington Herald Leader:
A volunteer firefighter in Eastern Kentucky died Sunday evening after he suffered a heart attack while assisting with a high school graduation parade, according to the Garrett Area Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire department said Phillip Caudill was assisting with traffic control for the Floyd Central High School Senior Graduation Parade when he suffered the apparent heart attack. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
“Phillip was always one of the first to a call, hardly missed a meeting or training and always volunteered for any special detail that came up,” the fire department wrote in a Facebook post. “He was one of our go to guys. We all will miss him dearly and we thank him for everything he did for us and our community.”
