Firestorm Wildland Suppression Firefighter Darin Banks died in the Line of Duty Friday after being hit by a dead tree that unexpectedly fell.
Firefighter Banks was assigned to a Type II Initial Attack Hand Crew working to prepare an area for prescribed burning in Tuolumne County. FF Banks, 26, leaves behind his 4-year-old son, mother, siblings, grandparents and great-grandparents. A gofundme page has been set up to support Darin’s son and family.
OKLAHOMA FIREFIGHTER DIES FROM BURNS
One of the two Firefighters who were burned last month while battling a wildfire in the Oklahoma panhandle has died in the Line of Duty. Balko Firefighter Jason Smith died Sunday, 33 days after the incident, after taking a sudden turn for the worse.
Smith and Tyler Morris were burned April 5 when their truck rolled over in a ditch. The two were operating at the Beaver River Fire in Beaver County. They were treated in the burn unit at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

Firefighter Smith was released from the hospital on April 19 and he had a checkup on April 27 and his wife said “everything looks positive.” They were supposed to go back for a follow-up this week.
