LEANDER, Texas — A fire at Leander Grocery over the weekend caused around $350,000 worth of damage and left one firefighter injured.
The Leander Fire Department was dispatched to the reported commercial structure fire at 307 South US Highway 183 just before 5:30 Sunday morning.
When crews arrived several minutes later, they determined the fire was in the attic of the unoccupied building. It then spread to the roof.
LFD said there was a secondary roof on the building that complicated the process of extinguishing the flames. It took approximately two hours to completely put out the fire and the last unit cleared the scene at 10:05 a.m.
During the ordeal, a firefighter fell off a ladder and broke his foot.
The cause of the fire involved the building’s air conditioning and heating system, LFD said.
US 183 was closed in both directions and reopened just before 8 a.m.
Williamson County EMS, Leander Police Department and PEC responded and assisted the fire department.
