FIREFIGHTER INJURED DURING INTERIOR COLLAPSE AT HOUSE FIRE – WISCONSIN

From the Kenosha County Scanner Facebook Page:
A Tuesday evening house fire in the Village of Somers resulted in significant damage to a residence and sent one firefighter to the hospital with minor injuries.
According to Somers Fire & Rescue, crews were dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m. on June 23 to a reported structure fire in the 700 block of 16th Place. While responding, firefighters could see a large column of black smoke from several miles away, prompting an early request for assistance from neighboring departments.
Upon arrival, crews found a two-story home with heavy fire involvement at the front of the structure. Due to the intensity of the fire and the close proximity of nearby homes, firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring properties that were beginning to become involved.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours battling the blaze and bringing it under control. No civilians were injured during the incident, but the home sustained extensive damage. At least 1 other home sustained damage to the exterior of the house.
During interior firefighting operations, a MAYDAY was declared after a firefighter was reportedly trapped following an interior collapse. The firefighter was removed from the structure and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Per Somers Fire, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Kenosha County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including Kenosha Fire Department, Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue, Paris Fire, Bristol Fire, South Shore Fire, Caledonia Fire, Newport Fire, Zion Fire, Salem Lakes Fire, Antioch Fire, Winthrop Harbor Fire, Rochester Fire, Racine Fire, Twin Lakes Fire, the Kenosha County Fire Investigation Task Force, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, Kenosha County Joint Services, WE Energies, and Racine Fire Bells.
