We regret to pass on that an Arkansas volunteer Fire Chief was killed in the Line of Duty yesterday. He was struck by a vehicle while working during storms in north-central Arkansas.
Cove Creek/Pearson Fire Chief Doug Decker died early yesterday (Sunday) after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 25 near Quitman, about 40 miles north of Little Rock.
Chief Decker was checking water levels during the storm when he was struck shortly before 0400 hours.
The Chief was a 40+ year veteran Firefighter who also the coordinator of the Cleburne County Search and Rescue Team.
His death come among other dues to the storm conditions including a 10-year-old girl who in died after being swept away by floodwaters in Springdale and a woman in Eureka Springs who died after disappearing while riding an inner tube in a creek. In east-central Arkansas a woman was killed when a tree was blown into her home in DeWitt.
At least 14 people have been killed by tornadoes or flooding in the South and Midwest by a storm that also dumped a rare late-season blizzard in western Kansas on Sunday.
Our condolences to all. Rest In Peace.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
