RIVERSIDE, Calif. (CBS Newspath/WKRC) – The fear is real from this house that’s fully engulfed in the Halloween spirit.
But some are getting so scared, they called authorities for help.
The pirate-themed haunted house has the whole neighborhood screaming, but the real fright comes from the flames ripping through the living room.
They look so real, a handful of people have actually called 9-1-1 to report a house fire.
“Last we had checked, they had five calls,” said homeowner Travis Long. “If the person’s really adamant, the fire department will call my cell phone.”
Believe it or not, Travis says he’s never made anything like this before.
He found out how to turn material, a fan, and an orange light into super realistic faux fire on Youtube.
“He’s the one with the vision,” says his wife, Carmen Long. “Now I’m just asking him to come up with a way to make it smell.”
The little kids coming by to watch were spellbound by the special effects. They think it must be all those scared adults calling the fire department.
Ultimately, the house is a labor of love that the Longs are sharing with their community
“Everyone else gets to enjoy it,” said Carmen. “It means a lot to us.”
