All,
This video is another example of just how bad it is “out there”-on the roadways. In this case, a Fairfax County (VA) Police Officer BARELY escapes with his life.
Whenever we – as Firefighters & EMT’s operate on any roadways, it’s critical to over compensate in being aware of what “may” happen. Rest assured, this Police Officer did absolutely nothing wrong and was very fortunate…but whenever we, in fire/EMS etc have many eyes on a scene, eyes wide open “expecting” something like this – and constant “size up”—-can be a big deal and a life saver. Note the FREE training line below.
WHAT HAPPENED:
On May 1 around 1138 hours, the Patrol Officer was on a routine traffic stop. A 17-year-old driver was traveling northbound on Fairfax County Parkway at a high rate of speed and lost control, spun around, crossed the median, striking the civilian vehicle then the officer’s vehicle. The Patrol Officer was nearly struck and killed.
The adult driver on the traffic stop was taken to the hospital with minor injuries not considered to be life-threatening and has since been released from the hospital. The officer sustained minor injuries. The juvenile driver of the BMW M3 and the two passengers sustained minor injuries. The juvenile was charged with reckless driving.

Parents and guardians should consider using this video as an opportunity to have a conversation with their teen drivers about how their driving behavior can affect the lives of others.
