All,
We regret to pass on that a Paramedic with the Little Rock (Arkansas) Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services died in the Line of Duty from injuries sustained during last week’s Little Rock Marathon, as part of the EMS bike team.
Major Dean Douglas was initially severely injured while working the marathon. Initial reports are that he was involved in a collision between a UTV Gator and an EMS style bicycle he was riding. He served as a MEMS Paramedic during the race and had been on life support since then. In his last act of heroism*, he donated his organs so that others may live. This is the only Line of Duty death that their organization has experienced in its 37-year history.
Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.

===DRONE CLOSE CALL WITH EMS HELICOPTER
A medical helicopter bringing a patient to the University of Virginia Medical Center encountered a drone well above the legal flying limit late Tuesday, November 23.
They had their night crew flying into the helipad at UVA, and about a mile to a mile-and-a-half the pilot reported that he thought he saw what was an aircraft distant. The Lynchburg-based pilot quickly realized it was not an aircraft, and it suddenly was right in front of him.
In order to avoid the collision, he had to make a very evasive maneuver, rolling the aircraft away from the drone. Despite the scare, the helicopter was able to land at UVA Medical Center safely.

===FDNY EMS MEMBER / VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER TAKE HIS OWN LIFE
An off-duty FDNY EMT who died in a fiery crash on Staten Island appeared to die by suicide by speeding into the side of a school building. Vladimir Sabatelli, 24, was behind the wheel of a Dodge Challenger around 2335 hours on Tuesday when the car overturned, slammed into the side of Susan E. Wagner High School and burst into flames. Cops initially said Sabatelli lost control of the car — but sources said investigators now believe he took his own life. Sources said Sabatelli was depressed about an issue at work, and texted his colleagues an apparent suicide note before the crash.
In his off duty time Vlad was a volunteer Firefighter with NYC’s Richmond Engine Co. 1 located on Staten Island. https://www.facebook.
Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
