As you will recall, on February 18, 2020, Porterville (California) Firefighter Patrick Jones, 25, and Fire Capt. Ray Figueroa, 35, were killed in the Line of Duty fighting the Porterville library fire. After arriving on the scene, they were “unable to confirm if all citizens had been able to exit the building” and conducted a search when not long after, “mayday” was transmitted.
Captain Figueroa was found, rescued, treated – taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Firefighter Jones was initially reported missing, but his body was later located in the building.
The report took more than nine months and more than 1,000 hours of personnel time to complete. The review included interviews, review of dispatch videos, helmet camera footage, body camera footage, review of policies and procedures and a review of laws, mandates, industry standards and best practices. Regular meetings were held to compile the data that’s included in the report.
