All,
We regret to pass on that a nearly 30-year veteran with the Chicago Fire Department died early this morning after a beam fell onto him during an alley garage fire on the West Side.
CFD identified the Firefighter as Captain David Meyer, 54, who served on Engine 96 and Truck 29. Chicago Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt said Captain Meyer served 28 years on the job, and he leaves behind a wife, three daughters, and a son.
Initial reports are that they were operating at that alley garage fire, and while operating, a large beam came down and struck the Captain, resulting in his Line of Duty Death.
Much more to follow. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
