Fire in a Vacant 1 story ranch, on arrival crews had heavy smoke coming from 1st floor with no visible fire. Crew began advancing through front door while windows were being taken. Once the ventilation was being done the smoke began to lift as the crew was entering noticed visible fire to their right in the basement. They were able to recognize there was no floor. They relocated and were able to successfully attack fire from a rear walk out basement door that did not jeopardize their safety. If crew members were not paying attention and looking before crawling they would have ended up in basement.
Crawl don’t walk when entering, sound out floor; utilize a TIC on entering building looking for fire below. I have picture’s I would like to include. How can I submit them?
