ARREST MADE IN SHOOTING OF TWO FIRST RESPONDERS – ANTIOCH, CALIFORNIA

Joe Knitter    February 23, 2021    No Comments

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KTXL) — A Stockton man is being held in connection to a homicide in Discovery Bay and a drive-by shooting in Antioch that left two first responders injured.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said two first responders treating someone for a medical emergency on Saturday were struck in a drive-by shooting near Auto Center and Sycamore drives in Antioch.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Nobody would’ve thought that would happen with all of these people around. And then you just hear gunshots,” said a witness who worked at a nearby business. “I didn’t see the firefighter get shot. I only saw the other one, you know, because we just ran inside after all these, like, six shots.”

After a pursuit involving multiple officers, the sheriff’s office says 26-year-old Darryon Williams, of Stockton, was arrested in Richmond.

The Antioch Police Department later asked sheriff’s deputies to do a welfare check on a person related to that case.

Deputies arrived at a Discovery Bay home on Newport Court near Goleta Place and found the door to the home open. After searching the home, the sheriff’s office says they found a man shot dead.

The man was later identified as 64-year-old Michael Iliff of Discovery Bay.

Neighbors said this wasn’t the first time police have been called to the home.

“He’s very quiet. But he’s had some roommates that have had some issues,” said a neighbor.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators suspect Williams of being connected to the death of Iliff.

Williams was booked into Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of murder and 10 attempted murders.

Detectives are also searching for Williams’ 4-year-old son and the mother of the child, 31-year-old Kimberly Meeks of Discovery Bay. Officials say Meeks has ties to the Stockton and Sacramento areas.

Investigators believe Meeks was staying with Iliff.

The sheriff’s office says they were last seen traveling in a dark-colored Audi SUV with California license plates 8UKN742. Detectives say they are concerned for their safety.
