SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. – An 18-wheeler struck an ambulance and fire truck while a crash investigation was underway early Friday morning on Interstate 40 in east Shelby County, officials said.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCS0), deputies were investigating a single-vehicle crash on eastbound I-40, just west of Highways 269/385, when the 18-wheeler struck two emergency vehicles on scene. The wreck was reported just after 1:30 a.m.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was was seriously hurt and rushed to Regional One Health, while a man in the single-vehicle crash suffered non-critical injuries, SCSO said.
A second crash on I-40, just east of Airline, caused traffic to back up on the interstate.
