Virginia Beach police have charged an ambulance driver with reckless driving after they say he crashed the ambulance. It happened on Friday, March 2nd at 6:22 p.m. That’s when Virginia Beach Police, Fire and Paramedics responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of North Witchduck Rd. and Jericho Rd. Involved in the crash was a Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services ambulance and a 2006 Ford Focus.
According to police, the ambulance was traveling north in the 4800 block of N. Witchduck Road with no patients on board. The ambulance was responding to a medical emergency call with emergency equipment activated. The ambulance had a red light as it approached the intersection.
The Ford Focus was traveling west on Jericho Rd. The ambulance proceeded through the intersection, hitting the driver’s side door of the Ford Focus. The ambulance came to rest on the median and the Ford Focus came to rest against the ambulance. The driver of the Ford Focus, the only occupant, was transported to an area hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.
On Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 9:43 p.m., the driver of the ambulance, Matthew Degrave, 22, was issued a summons for reckless driving.
