The firefighter was doing routine flushing of some fire hydrants when the accident happened.
A stretch of Geyer was shut down for two hours while police investigated. Authorities say the driver who hit the fireman stopped immediately. Claire Budd with the City of Kirkwood says, “It’s our understanding the firefighter was conscious when he was transported to a local trauma unit, and at the current time is in satisfactory condition, which is really good news.”
The firefighter is doing well but was expected to stay in the hospital overnight. No word on any charges in the accident.
