Details coming out of Texas indicate that last night, 1808 hours deputies responded to the 4400 block of Tenney Creek Road near Tilmon (SE of Austin) for a call of two subjects “down.” When deputies arrived, they found two dead people, 18-year-old Volunteer Firefighter Klayton Manning and a male juvenile, his cousin. Firefighter Manning had just graduated from Luling High School.
The Southeast Caldwell County Volunteer Fire Department confirmed that Manning was one of its volunteer firefighters. A Polaris side-by-side utility vehicle was found on-scene, and the sheriff’s office said it appeared the two were driving the vehicle down the road when they encountered the shooter. While unconfirmed, there are reports that indicating Firefighter Manning may have stumbled across criminal activity while investigating smoke in an area. We are awaiting confirmation as to that, and if his murder will be declared as an LODD.
An Austin man was arrested today and charged with the shooting. 34-year-old Bryan Haynes was arrested at a home in Bastrop County this afternoon. Haynes is the only suspect in the case and cops said he may face additional charges.
More details to follow.
