I think each one of us at one time or another KNEW (in our hearts, emotionally etc) of something that absolutely just HAD to be TRUE …only to be shown that the facts didn’t backup what we thought. Damn.
Kinda like the time it (allegedly) took your fire department 30 minutes to get to a fire – only to prove to the accuser that it was actually 4 minutes.
When we take a moment to check out the facts-the answers may surprise us. Don’t you (sorta) just love when that happens? When it comes to your fire department statistics, finding out the facts can be very helpful in calming emotions and focusing on reality. Good or Bad.
The reality is that DATA swirls around fire operations—fire and EMS response deployment, turnout times, response times, minimum staffing levels, training, funding and exposures. Data also comes up when we’re asked to “prove” what we already know about our operational capability!
But how can we EASILY capture this data, and how do we use it to make meaningful decisions?
A FREE LEXIPOL WEBINAR:
JANUARY 14th, 2019 at 1600 Hours Eastern
Join Lexipol and a panel of distinguished fire service leaders (IAFF’s Dr Lori Moore-Merrell, NFPA’s Russ Sanders-Ret, Chief of Louisville, KY), Immediate Past IAFC President Chief Tom Jenkins from Rogers, AR & Orange County FL and current IAFC 2nd VP Chief Otto Drozd and I) to learn about the growing imperative for data-driven decision-making in the fire service. The presenters will share key performance measures that fire departments should be tracking, methods for easily capturing the data needed for those measures, and how to use your data to effect change at the administrative, company and individual firefighter levels. Attendees will also view a demonstration of the National Fire Operations Reporting System (NFORS), a live data analytics system available to fire departments through a nonprofit collaborative group of fire service organizations.
· Why fire service leaders (management, labor-both career and volunteer) need to use easily accessible performance measures to drive operational and policy decisions and support budget requests
· How to use easily available “live” data and performance measures at the fire company level to empower officers and firefighters to improve performance and reduce risks
· How the NFORS system easily helps fire departments capture and analyze real-world operational data, including incident/response tracking and even documenting individual firefighter physical and behavioral health exposures to ensure adequate documentation in the event of cancer or PTSD diagnosis. It’s all data that’s already “out there” and this will show you how to pull it all into one usable package of info. Info that your community, elected officials, the public and your members will all gain from understanding, Understanding the FACTS.
