The NY Times is soliciting opinions and information related to the Oakland fire. And fires. And fire death. Really.
This is a very unique opportunity for Firefighters, Fire Officers, Fire Chiefs and others to share specific and non-specific information on fires, prevention, life safety and related information.
While this shouldn’t be about the painstaking and heroic efforts of the OFD Firefighters doing everything they could that night…
…this CAN be about educating the media on preventing horrific deaths by smoke and fire by sharing information about other fires, successes, other losses and fire loss and death history.
Your comments and input may be just the ones that gets the attention of the right people. The right people so a serious wake-up call can be sounded related to fire prevention, fire codes, fire sprinklers, public education and the challenges all firefighters face when people have their worse day.
The issues of equipment, leadership, training, staffing, fire politics…a chance to educate the media who perhaps may help strike some nerves. Emotions that might just last longer than other past fires where again-people were killed and the losses at those fires have proven to be preventable.
