A Virginia firefighter was rescued Monday after she was trapped under the rubble of a collapsed wall while battling a house fire.
Suffolk crews responded to the blaze just after 9:30 a.m. at a rural home, the department said in a statement. A detached garage and two vehicles inside it had caught fire by the time firefighters arrived.
The mayday went out after the wall between the garage and the house collapsed on a firefighter, according to the department. She was quickly pulled from the debris and taken to a local hospital. Details about her condition were not released, and she remained at the hospital as of Monday night.
Another firefighter also was hospitalized from fighting the blaze and later released, the department said. It’s unclear how that firefighter was hurt and if it was connected to the mayday call.
