By Michael Romain, The Village Free Press:
Two Maywood firefighters sustained minor injuries during a house fire that erupted on Friday night, according to Maywood Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh.
The Maywood Fire Department was called to a 1-alarm fire at 1st and Harvard St. in Maywood, at around 8:10 p.m. on April 6.
Bronaugh said that the home was technically vacant, but may have been occupied by squatters who may have caused the fire.
“It was likely man-made,” he said. “Some homeless people may have been smoking. There was a mattress in the second-floor bedroom at the west end of the home, which is where the fire started. It looks like it spread to the front. The firefighters did a good job getting in there and checking where it was.”
Bronaugh said that two firefighters sustained injuries — one sustained a finger laceration and another sustained a knee injury.
