Two Middletown, Conn., firefighters suffered minor injuries when the floor gave way while they were battling a single-family structure fire Monday.
Firefighters attempted to rescue the homeowner, an elderly man who later died.
“When the firefighters were trying to remove the victim from the building, the floor gave way,” Chief Michael Howley of Middletown’s South Fire District told WTNH. “Two of the firefighters, one went completely through, down to the basement, the other went partially through.”
Both firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries; one was quickly released.
