The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department is saddened to share the unexpected loss of Driver Engineer Michael Matonak on September 18, 2018. Mike served their department, the fire academy, and their community for over 20 years and will be greatly missed.
“Michael, or as his brothers and sisters in service lovingly referred to him as, ‘Beef,’ started his public safety career as a teenager after joining the City of Coral Springs Police Explorer program. A graduate of Coral Springs J.P. Taravella High School, Michael continued his education in the City at the Coral Springs Fire Academy. After completing the academy, he began service with the Coral Springs Volunteer Fire Department in 1996. In 2000, Michael was hired by the City as a full-time Firefighter/EMT. He was promoted to the position of Driver Engineer in 2004.
Michael is survived by his wife, Kelly, and their two children, Brayden and Bryson; as well as his parents Wayne and Joanne; brother, Glenn; sister, Julie Lobl as well as his nieces and nephews.”
Services are scheduled for Saturday, September 22ndat St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, at 11:00 am. The church is located at 1401 Coral Ridge Drive, in Coral Springs. The procession will then go to the burial site at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, located at 1500 S. State Road 7, North Lauderdale.
