I never gave much thought to residential fire sprinklers until, in the late 80’s, I woke up and realized that I owned some level of responsibility when people got hurt or died in fires that occurred in my jurisdiction.
I also remember literally crawling down the zero visibility hall of an occupied multi-family dwelling with my old friend and brother Kenny Lawson (around 1989), stretching a line, when a Firefighter in front of us yelled out “dammit! sprinklered!” It wasn’t like “YAY”…it was more more like “DAMMIT”…that moment of irony stuck. We were LESS than happy that the sprinkler knocked the fire before WE could. Literally: things that make you go hmmmm.
So… tonight, the NY State Association of Fire Chiefs will host a unique tele-town hall to discuss home fire sprinklers at 1900 hours and you are encouraged to join us-no matter where you live.
I am thrilled to join NYSAFC Executive Director Jerry DeLuca in their tele-town hall on April 16, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. (Eastern time zone) to discuss the benefits of home fire sprinklers and NYSAFC’s efforts to ensure the requirement for sprinklers in new homes that is part of the International Residential Code (IRC) is maintained as part of the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code.
We will discuss the common myths and misconceptions concerning home fire sprinklers, some even held by members of the fire service, and answer questions from fire service members about home fire sprinklers.
A tele-town hall is just what it sounds like – a town hall meeting held via telephone. ,
TO JOIN IN: At 1900 hours tonight (EST) please call in by dialing (877) 228-2184 and enter pin number 117303.
Hope you’ll join us. And members of the home builders associations are especially welcome to join us. Really.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass it On.
